When I was a little girl, some of my earliest memories are shopping at Piece Goods Fabric store with my mother. They no longer exist, but I remember traveling through aisles of beautiful cottons, satins, manufactured fibers, threads and leafing through pattern books with her. This experience led me to my own sewing adventures later in life, but also gave me a discerning eye for quality construction in clothing.

My collection started at the age of 13, the year was 1991 and for those who recall 1991 ‘grunge’ was very “in”.  An attitude of “Who cares what you are wearing!  Are you on Prozac too?” seemed to permeate society, a far cry from the materialistic label-obsessed 80’s.
This lead me to my first thrift store, from there I was hooked.

Later, when I decided being a Goth was more my style, I combed through Salvation Army like a madwoman looking for black velvet anything.  I would pick up the odd pantsuit or mid-century handbag and mix stuff up a little, sometimes just for the simple reason that the colors caught my eye.  I changed my style numerous times, but I always came back to my favorite thrift stores in search of well constructed clothing of the past.

I’ve been selling lingerie lately because I have always loved the sex appeal and glamour of Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Audrey Hepburn and others.  Pin up artists like Arnold Armitage, Rolf Armstrong, and others fascinate me as well.  The curvy beautiful women express the ‘ideal’ body shape at the time and reflect a lot on the status of fashion, women, and their roles in society.

Researching clothing involves looking into history, biology, chemistry, sociology, and culture.  It’s a multifaceted adventure in learning.  (As cheesy as it sounds!)  I absolutely love it, and hope to continue to have the resources to do so.
