The best advice in Rampage is to read the manual, so that you know all of the nuances of the game. The manual gives some really good tips. Make sure both difficulty switches are set to B. Rampage by Activision lets you become the star of the show by smashing and crushing buildings just as Godzilla does. The controls are as usual: up, down, left, and right. The button controls your punching. The gaming selections are either one player or two player modes. When choosing your monster, you move the controller up or down to select the name of the monster that you want to use, "George", "Lizzie", or "Ralph". You then press the button to make that selection. In a two player game you must wait till player one is finished with their selection before you can choose the remaining monster. Once your selections are made you then press the button again to begin your game. While destroying cities you demolish as many buildings in each city as you can, while trying to avoid enemy fire. There are 85 cities in all, so I hope you enjoy demolishing. To move in any direction, move the joystick in that direction. To climb, you move the joystick either left or right while being in close proximity to a building, then move the joystick up. For punching, you move the joystick in that direction and press the button. When you punch certain enemies, you'll automatically eat them. If the color of that enemy is the same as the color of your monster, then you will have no ill consequences in losing precious energy. If you are between two buildings that are close together you can punch both while clinging on to one building. You punch to the left and then to the right. This will make your monster hit each building instead of climbing all the way back down and then climbing onto the other. Each building does not collapse until it's only one block wide with minimal segments remaining. While you are on the ground, try jumping to travel faster than walking when you are pressed for time. Scoring is at the top of the screen in the middle. And the energy bar is right below it. You score points by a multitude of things like: punching buildings, punching other monsters, grabbing money, punching enemies, eating enemies, and eating transformed monsters. You will gain an extra life for each 100,000 points that you score. Eating items will keep up your energy level, but beware that there are certain blinking items that might not be so good to eat, as they will result in your losing energy. So you must wait until they stop blinking to eat them. To attack helicopters you must climb the tallest building and punch upwards. If you exhaust all of your energy you will revert back to a normal human shape. If you have extra lives, a blimp will deliver your reserve monster life. TIPS: Eat your opponent's transformed monster which has become human for extra energy points. It's also possible to leap to other building tops, even to those of the same height. The best advice in Boxing is to read the manual, so that you know all of the nuances of the game. The manual gives some really good tips. Make sure both difficulty switches are set to B. Here is your chance to become the next world boxing champion and Activision offers just that. There are two gaming selections to choose from. "You vs the computer" and "you vs another player", Those numbers are indicated in the upper left side in white when pressing game select. The controls are up, down, left, and right. The button controls the boxer's jabs. The difficulty switches control the speed. Difficulty "A" is slower and "B" is normal speed. It is fun to use these settings against the computer by having your difficulty set on "B" and the computers set on "A" it will allow you to move much faster gaining you the advantage, but who wants to win like that. After getting use to the movements, place both difficulty settings to "B" so you can get a better feel of how a real opponents skills will be. Once you press reset, you'll have two minutes to perform as many jabs as you can in the round. The scoring is at the top of the screen and these colors correspond with the color of your boxer, either white or black. As the timer ticks down, you try and navigate toward your opponent as fast as possible to knock him out. But beware he is trying to do the same thing to you. You score points on how you jab. For long shots you get one point each and for close jabs you get two points each. For the knock-out you have to score 100 points. So the first person to reach that score is the winner. Or if no one scores 100 points, whomever is the person with the most points when the timer elapses also wins. The overhead view offers a unique position to see where and how close you are to your opponent. The realism for its time offered a nice perspective on what it would be like to be a boxer. Plus you can switch sides to confuse your opponent while taking jabs at him while he is trying to adjust to your attacking position. Circling your opponent in this manner gives you an edge, showing you're an experienced boxer vs one who's not. As you are hit, your boxer's head pivots back as to look like it just took a shot from your opponent. Trying to trap your opponent between you and the ropes offers an intense way to win the match. By doing this method your opponent has little or no room to move around to avoid being hit. **TIPS - There is a certain way that you can trap your opponent "player or the computer" between you and the ropes and stick them between jabs. This sticking movement traps them so they cannot move and enabling you to gain a faster victory and the points really add up quickly.   • Worm Whomper by Activision (Part 2): Tips Tricks Hints and Strategies

    Continued from Part 1... Some bugs will attack in straight lines, while others have a wavering pattern or diagonal attack patterns. The oncoming waves of bugs have different elimination amounts. Certain bugs only take one hit to kill and others could take up to seven hits to kill. There are snail shells and slug slime that clutters the field of attack. The spray gun will not penetrate these hazards, but the plough ball will. There are moths which do not eat your corn stalks, but do however drop eggs that hatch into caterpillars that do eat your corn stalks. So be vigilant about which bugs you kill and their screen placement to where you're remaining corn stalks are. This game uses a side view of attacking, but game play is much like the game Missile Command which uses a vertical view of attacking. You must defend the remaining corn stalks that are yellow and that are closest. After all you wouldn't want to be shooting bugs at the top of the screen when your corn stalk is at the bottom, placing it in jeopardy of being eaten. You must be observant of which bug is of more importance and danger to the corn. Spray the larger bugs first because they move the fastest and do the most damage. This game does have a pause feature so you can come back at a later time and continue game play. You press the numbers "1 & 9" or "3 & 7" at the same time to initiate this feature. I wouldn't however recommend this if you live in a state which has a lot of lightning and or you live in an area which has a lot of power outages. *TIPS: Use survival instinct on what to protect most, so you can last longer. As you play, your hand will endure a lot of pain and cramping due to the unusual shape of the Intellivision controller, not to mention the wear and tear on the disc from constant movement. This is a long game and your hands must be conditioned to endure. The best advice in Worm Whomper is to read the manual, so that you know all of the nuances of the game. The manual gives some really good tips. Activision Worm Whomper for the Mattel Intellivision system is one of the more entertaining and at the same time grueling games to play. On this system you are provided with overlays that slip onto the gaming controller. These overlays show you which game to select. You chose either a one player game or a two player game. Player one is defined with blue overalls and uses the left side controller. Player two uses the right side and wears the black overalls. The players switch after one player has completed an entire wave of attacking insects. Wave after wave of insects invade the corn crops. The objective is to protect and defend these valuable crops and save farmer Felton's fields. There are many insect enemies that are hungry, such as worms, snails, slugs, and bugs of all sorts. There are twelve different ones to be exact. The defense is using a pumping container of pesticide to kill them. You also can use plough balls to flatten the bugs dead. It's sort of like using a smart bomb. The controls are by using the disc on the Intellivision controller. In the usual method there is up, down, left, and right. But you also can just tap in any direction on the disc to make minimal movements for precision in those directions. Use the "upper" side buttons for shooting the pesticide at the oncoming enemy bugs. You can either keep pressing the button for more accuracy or hold the button down for continual fire. The "lower" button is in charge of firing the plough balls. And again, by holding the button down you can fire multiple plough balls. Plough balls can flatten and kill each bug that's in its direct path of rolling or that lane. You start off with three plough balls, and are awarded three more for each wave that you complete. The farmer can utilize the entire screen and move about freely to protect the corn. You earn points for each bug killed. Bonus points are given at a value of "50x the wave" for each corn stalk that remains on the screen at the end of the wave. Your point value differs depending on which bug you kill. Some are worth only 1 point, where others are worth 7000 points. Also keep in mind these values are multiplied by the wave that you are on. So if you are on wave twenty, it would be 20x7000 for that specific bug point value. The tool shed is placed at the bottom middle of the screen. You go there to replace any spray gun containers that come in contact with any enemy bugs. When you do make contact with any bugs, the bugs die but you lose a spray gun. When you start the game, you will notice that there are 10 stalks of corn and there are several numbers that are about the screen. The numbers at the lower left side are the reserve corn stalks that you receive. The numbers in the upper left is where the extra plough balls are. You start off with three in reserve. The numbers in the middle are where your score will be. The numbers in the upper right are where the wave number is represented. The corn stalks that you are protecting turn brown when a bug comes in contact with it. But don't worry as it takes two contacts to make the corn wither. You get one replacement corn stalk at the beginning of each wave from the ones that you have in reserve. You get a bonus corn stalk at the end of every fourth wave. Continued in Part 2...

The best advice in Tennis is to read the manual, so that you know all of the nuances of the game. The manual gives some really good tips. Make sure both difficulty switches are set to B. It is nearly impossible to beat the computer if your left difficulty switch is set to A. Activision Tennis places you in the game to feel like one of the pros. You begin the game by selecting if you want to play against a friend or the computer. There are four gaming selections to choose from. Two being against a friend in either a slow mode or fast mode. The same goes for going against the computer. In selections 1 & 3 you will always be the left joystick - orange player while the computer is blue. The controls are the usual left, right, up, and down. The up and down in this game brings your closer to or further from the net. While you are in serving mode your movements are limited to just left and right. The red button is to serve the ball. The difficulty switches in this game make your serves and return volleys vary. While in the "A" difficulty position, your serving shots and volleys are limited in the width of angles, while in the "B" difficulty position you'll have a much wider area of sharply angled shots. B makes it much easier to win against the computer opponent. You begin the game by pressing the reset button. The orange player will always be the first to serve the ball. To serve the ball you can move your player back and forth till you feel comfortable with that positioning and then press the button to serve the ball. To return the serve just position your player near the ball, you will return the serve automatically. No button pressing is ever necessary except while serving. The placement of the racket either to the right or left side of the ball helps in the placement of where you will hit the ball to angle the return volleys. Remember you want to outwit your opponent with some fake out moves and sharp angled return volleys that will be out of his reach to attempt a return. The scoring in this game is the same as in real tennis: 15-30-40, "deuce" at 40-all, and "ad in" or "ad out" following "deuce". The first player to win 6 games and to be ahead by two games wins the set. Your scores are shown at the top of the screen corresponding with the color of your player. Playing against a human player requires you to adapt to their unpredictability, whereas the computer is limited to a set number of programmed moves and returns. Much like real tennis you make your shots depending on the angle the ball is hit by the racket. If you hit the ball in the center of the racket, the ball will go straight. If the ball is hit on the edge of the racket, the ball will go at a sharper angle. If you miss the ball by doing this technique your opponent will score a point on you. *TIPS -- Learning the movements from a human opponent and or the computer opponent will make you top notch. Anticipating the angled shots and being able to counter them with your shots will gain you many wins in the point scoring department.     Continued from part 1... You now advance on to the next invaded sector by switching the b/w & color switch again to travel on to the next sector that is occupied by enemies. If you are running low on energy you can always dock with a star base along the way, but doing this sacrifices needed time to defend and destroy as well as 100 points deducted from the final score. Docking with the Star Base is much like getting the enemy in your cross hairs, you do the same until you've docked and your energy is instantly boosted back to max 9999. Keep in mind that you're star bases are under the threat of being destroyed so careful observation of how close the enemies are to those star bases is important. Try not to let any star base be surrounded by the enemies or they will destroy it costing 500 points from the final score. Your mission is over when all the enemy ships are destroyed, or your ship is destroyed. Your mission also ends if you run out of energy. You can refer back to your galactic chart once again by pressing the b/w & color switch to see your evaluated mission and ranking score. You score points for a number of things along the way, you also take deductions depending on how well or poorly that you performed on your mission. Each game level has a "base score" with which you begin before deductions are made. Many key things factor in on how you are ranked. **TIPS Learning the control of how to shoot and destroy effectively using the least amount of energy.     The minimum score required in Starmaster by Activision for the Atari 2600 to earn a patch was: Ensign 3800 points, Leader 5700 points, Wing Commander 7600 points, and Starmaster 9000 points. The best advice in Starmaster is to read both manuals, so that you know all of the nuances of the game. The manuals gives some really good tips and vital information. Make sure both difficulty switches are set to B. Activision StarMaster is another one of those games that will have you biting your nails. Plug the joystick into the left side, as this is the only side that you'll be using in Starmaster. The controls are up, down, left, and right. But the thing to remember is when you hold the joystick to the right, the screen will move to the left. This comparison is sort of like looking through a telescope. When you move the scope in any direction, the reverse side tip of that scope goes into the opposite direction. The b/w & color switch brings up your galactic chart and switches back to play mode. You'll have four different gaming levels to choose from. "E" for Ensign which is the easiest level, "L" for leader, "W" for Wing Commander, and "S" for StarMaster which is the hardest level. During game play you will encounter four modes of operation. The Galactic Chart, Warp Travel, Engaging the Enemy, and Docking with the Star base. When you hit the b/w & color switch you will notice several things. Your ship is represented by a "+" mark, the star bases are "I-O-I" shaped icons and the enemies are shown as dots on the screen. Your MACC or Mission/Attack Control Computer is displayed at the bottom middle of the screen in blue. There are a series of letters E,W,S,E,D they represent different things that you'll need to know while playing. The first "E" is your game level "E for Ensign" "L for Leader" "W for Wing Commander" and "S for StarMaster". Each descending letter also has their specific duties, "W" for warp energy that is expended to travel from one position to another. The letter "S" is for star dates that have elapsed while engaging in flight combat. The letter "E" for your energy that is depleted and is remaining throughout your entire game play. The letter "D" for the damage that is taken. The bold colors around your "MACC" are represented for different functions that corresponding with each color. Green for an empty sector, Red for enemies that are present in this sector, and Blue for a Star Base being in this sector. The damage control indicator shows what exactly is going wrong with your ship if anyone of these letters "LSWR" show up on the "D" row, you're in serious jeopardy of being unable completing your mission. Laser, Shields, Warp Drive, Radar. You press the reset button to start the mission and as you start your warp through space you will encounter meteors you can either avoid by steering around them or shooting them to destroy them. Each meteor that you collide with drains between 100-500 energy units from your reserve shields so be very mindful of your skill set abilities. Once you've entered an area that has an enemy that is close by, your gun sight will start to flash indicating you should be poised to fire the laser. The objective here is to kill the enemy as fast as you can using the least amount of energy and all of this without taking any damage. The best advice in Stampede is to read the manual, so that you know all of the nuances of the game. The manual gives some really good tips. Make sure both difficulty switches are set to B. Activision Stampede is one of those games that looks easy until you actually play it. So let's saddle up and give Stampede a ride. The game setting should be set to left difficulty "B" . Use only one joystick in this game. There are eight game selections to choose from. Even though the game does not change in appearance, your level of difficulty does in the game that you select. Your left difficulty switch controls the length of your rope, from a shorter distance (A) to a longer distance (B). The controls are very simple in this game: "up and down" and press the button to throw the lasso to rope the stampeding calves. The calves are scored by their color. There are three different colors of calves "light brown or Jersey", "medium brown or Guernsey", "reddish brown or Hereford" and the "black Angus". Colliding with a steer skull will make the horse buck and precious time is passed with each bucking movement. When in this position you are unable to rope the oncoming calves, thus missing them if they go past and ultimately losing a needed stray count. Your score is in the middle top of the screen and your reserve stray count is just to the left of your score. You'll receive an extra stray count with each 1,000 points that you score. Each game will start out with three extra stray count and if you're skilled enough you can have a max reserve number of nine. For each 10,000 points you score you'll have a number that appears at the bottom of the screen representing each 10,000 points. The first ten thousand being represented by a steer head, then at twenty thousand you'll have a number two and next a 3. You score points for each calf that you rope in and each Black Angus that you collect. If you let a calf or Angus pass you, a stray count is deducted for each. Needless to say, gaining extra stray counts is a lot harder than losing them. Rope the calves by being right behind them on the row that they are in. If they get to close to you, you can always bump/herd them ahead to focus in on the ones that are coming toward you that are closer and easier to rope. The color cycles are indicative of the speeds of the calves. The lighter the color the faster the herd will go toward the horse. So controlling the colors is a must. And reverting them back to a slower darker color to make controlling the herd easier is the immediate goal. TIPS** Try grouping the sets of calves in pairs of twos. The upper two set, the middle two set, and the bottom two set and rotating through each set of colors will bring you back to the color where you started. These are called "color cycles". Doing this method or style will help in the separation and grouping of the herd plus making it easier to rope the Angus by knowing that once you finish a color cycle that the black Angus will appear near to that lane which you just cleared out. The Angus appears in every other row in which you start the color cycle. You will get one skull row and then one Angus row. If you herd the calves forward before you rope them, the next set will take much longer to appear giving you more time to perform other needed actions. This is a very helpful tip and can be used often during game play. There is a bug in the game that makes the calves impossible to herd forward when you reach the 8th herd at around 35-36 thousand. This essentially ends the game. There is no exact max score for this game per se. The best advice in Spider Fighter is to read the manual, so that you know all of the nuances of the game. The manual gives some really good tips. Make sure both difficulty switches are set to B. Activision Spider Fighter is one of those fast paced fun games that will make you come back for more. The controls are as usual: left, and right. The button is used for firing at the attacking enemy insects that are shooting at you. The left difficulty switch controls your gaming level speed and fire power where your right difficulty switch makes a difference of straight line fire, compared to the much easier guided firing style of game play. The score accumulates much faster on difficulty A if you want to max the score in as little time as possible. It is possible to switch between difficulty A and B when needed. When you start the game you will notice that you have four extra spider fighters in reserve that are at the bottom of the screen. The scoring is at the top middle of the screen. As you shoot the insects, you will gain needed points to add to your gaming total. As you progress through the levels, so does your insect point values if you are playing on the expert A level that is. Playing on expert level causes certain fruits that you are defending to multiply the values of those insects at which you are shooting. Each enemy insect pod at the top left side of the screen shows exactly how many enemy bug pods that you have left. Each pod contains several enemy insects that will shoot at you. If you don't kill them fast enough they will steal your fruit. For every stage that you complete with all of your fruit intact, you gain an extra life with a max of four in reserve. However if you get hit by one of their bullets you lose a life and it is replaced with one of your reserve lives. If you happen to survive through a stage without losing a life you will gain a 500 point bonus. If you exhaust all the reserve lives and you get hit by enemy fire, the game ends. There are a number of different fruits that you have to defend. The one with the most point value is the banana. Once you've reached the banana level there is no other fruit that appears after that. Your own firing speed dramatically increases when you reach the banana level. TIPS** Learn the mastery of shooting and evading. This will help greatly in the upper levels of this game. Being able to survive with a slalom style of shoot and run is ideal. The game score maxes once you reach 900,000 points.   • Space Shuttle by Activision (Part 2): Tips Tricks Hints and Strategies

    Continued from part 1: Once you are in space at the altitude of 210 miles above the Earth, the search begins for the orbiting satellite. The screen will indicate when the satellite is present and it will appear on the screen. Once you've done this the screen will flash RENDEVOUS. At that point it will be followed by FUEL and your fuel is replenished to 9999 max. Once that is completed the satellite will move away and then it's your (A, X, and Z axis) controls again for your descent and reentry back to Earth. It will not be that simple as there is the reentry burn stage at or around 170 miles above the Earth's surface. There are other hazards that you'll have to monitor constantly throughout the descent. Warnings and alert signs are usually accompanied by flashing and audible sounds. The burn stage will last till about 100 miles above the Earth's surface when the window screen stops flashing. As you navigate through space back to Earth, you will constantly view what is being displayed on the green screen for guidance. As you get out of the burn stage, the visible sky becomes present again with stars. The sky color will change from blue, purple, to a pinkish color, and will begin flashing again. When you do finally reach close to the Earth's surface, the view will change to an orange and reddish color for land. This is now time to go into search mode for the landing strip. You rely once again on your computer's green screen for positioning. Place the blinking white dot in the center of that inverted V shaped visual on the screen for the landing strip. The landing strip, once in site, will show up glowing white and will be more present and larger as you get closer to landing.
