The minimum score required in Keystone Kapers by Activision for the Atari 2600 to earn a patch was: 35,000 points. The best advice in Keystone Kapers is to read the manual, so that you know all of the nuances of the game. The manual gives some really good tips. Make sure both difficulty switches are set to B. Keystone Kapers offers so much for the Atari 2600. The colors, the game play, and the feel, all uniquely blended together to make you think that you are an actual keystone cop. And in this case "Officer Keystone Kelly", apprehending the bad guy "Harry Hooligan". Harry starts the game in the center of the second floor. He immediately starts running to the right to reach the escalator to the third floor for his escape to the roof where he rides the escalator on the far left side. Your task is to figure out which would be the fastest way to capture Harry Hooligan by using the escalators and/or the elevators to your advantage. Once you've captured Harry, the timer will give you bonus points for each second that is remaining and the next wave begins as soon as you move. There will be only 50 seconds do what you need to do. Running out of time, allowing the crook to escape from the roof, or colliding with an airplane causes a loss of one life. The game is over once all of your lives are exhausted. Extra lives are awarded for every 10,000 points. You control Officer Kelly by pressing to the left or to the right as he runs. If you want to enter an elevator you push up once the doors are open on your floor and then press down to exit the elevator when the doors re-open on the desired floor. But be aware that once you are in the elevator you are invincible until you step out. When you exit the elevator, if Harry is to your right on the same floor, he will run back to the lower floor to evade being caught. So timing is everything in keeping him close to your location. In stage 16 and beyond, this method won't be easy, since there will be other fast moving obstacles that you must evade when exiting the elevator. To jump over obstacles press the button. The items are comprised of beach balls, radios, and shopping carts. There are also airplanes which you have to duck under by pressing your controller down. If you collide with an airplane, you will lose a life. But wait, don't hit any of the other obstacles because nine seconds will be deducted from your remaining time. There are also items to grab that will add 50 points each to your score, such as money bags and suitcases. As your levels increase, so does the speed of the obstacles. It's a good idea to learn their predictable patterns, so you can better prepare yourself to evade them. Your score appears on top right side in white and your remaining seconds to capture Harry Hooligan appear below in black. Your remaining lives are also in black in the form of Keystone Cop hats. At the bottom middle of your screen is a map of the entire store area that you must patrol. And on this map you can see your location represented by the black square. There is a white square, which is Harry's location. And the grey block in the center is where the elevator is located. * Tips Jumping onto the escalator will gain you half the slow ride up. Also learning how to jump and duck with precise timing will make it easier when the obstacles get faster. Once you've reached 1 million points the game ends and you will be rewarded with six glowing cop hats in place of your score.
