What is the story behind Blanche's Place? I had just become involved in reenacting and Blanche Burton was the first person I researched and portrayed. Blanche Burton a madam from Colorado City in the 1880s. In fact she was the first madam in the Gold Mining Camp of Cripple Creek, Colorado. Blanche was retired by the early 1900's and spent a great deal of time and money helping those less fortunate in the community. She was killed in 1909 by a fire mysteriously set in her home.
