Portraiture artist Songchen brings to eBay a series of oil on black velvet paintings that evoke the mysterious beauty and exotic sensuality of paintings from the golden age of velvets. With inspiration from artists like Erwin, Tyree, Bouvier, and Leeteg, Songchen is attempting to bring back an appreciation for an art form which has languished in mediocrity for nearly 50 years. Postwar postcards from the South Pacific are his reference material. Years as a professional canvas portraiture artist have helped him develop his own unique style. His paintings are for the serious collector who has an appreciation for the mid-century romanticism that is at the heart of the nouveau Tiki Arts movement.
