Trends Spring 2009
12:13 PM PST, 1/27/2009
Ageless advice is to always accessorize! Jewelry expands your wardrobe 1,000 fold. Every outfit can be dressed up or down, made to look Modernist, Art Deco or Southwest. Earrings fit no matter what size you have expanded or dropped in size to. If you see a piece of jewelry that you just love, grab it! Someone else will get it if you don't and you will regret it later.
Be original or imaginative with your Jewels. Use bracelets to lengthen your necklaces for different neckline styles. Use your grandmother's rhinestone sweater clips as enhancers on a chain. This is a really great trick while Art Deco is big!
Art Deco Jewelery
Art Deco is an artistic style prominent in the 1920s and 1930s. Took its name from L'Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exhibition of Decorative and Modern Industrial Arts), held in Paris in 1925. Influences included Art Nouveau, Ancient Egyptian architecture, and Cubism
Anna Tizard is the accessories buyer at Urban Outfitters
"The Art Deco trend is especially relevant to our customers, who always covet a vintage-inspired look. We are seeing a very authentic 20s influence emerging across all our jewellery categories at present and going into spring/summer 2009 - especially bracelets, where we have juxtaposed a strong Deco influence on cuffs that look like real heirloom pieces yet retail for £26 and also earrings, where one of current best sellers is a beautiful epoxy Art Deco drop earring," explained Anna Tizard.Art Deco is eclectic and decorative, with an elegant and modern style. Egyptian influences are seen in scalloped patterns and sunray stripes, while heavy embellishment and geometric beading offer an opulent look. Black and gold color combinations, generating a glamorous style, with silver and pearl also important to this trend.
Clothing Styles
According to many Trend Setting Blogs, such as SassyChic: Top 10 Spring Fashion Trends, Yellow will be one of the top bright colors of the Spring 2009 season. Boho is still in, but there is a wider selection of what is "in" now! Unfortunately, many of the runway styles in this spring's selection only look good on runway models and other women under a size 6! However, if you are a Curvy Fashionista, there are Tendy articles fo ryou too! Ezine's Expert, Marie D Leggette, writes this article on Spring 2009 Fashion Trends For the Plus Size Woman. Whether you are a twiggy or a curvy fashionista, or anywhere in between, find your niche, tailor what is "in" to what fits your personal style. Don't force a look that isn't made for your personality. Who knows, you could discover the next year's "in" look!

BEJEWELED - great designers, celebrity style.
5:19 AM PST, 6/14/2008
Wonderful information on some lovely fine jewelry. Great pictures, but they don't show backs! I hate that about jewelry books, I want to flip the page and see what the back of the item looks like LOL! You can really see where some of the inspiration for our beloved costume jewelry came from. I highly recommend this one from the library. Buy it if you can afford it! Write it on the refrigerator as a gift idea for future birthday/christmas/anniversary gifts! Collector's Compass Jewelry
5:17 AM PST, 6/14/2008
Great little book! Don't let the size of this book fool you into passing it over! It's about 9" x 6" and 128 pages but packed full of good jewelry common sense. While it's aimed at the collector, it has great insight and sources for the seller as well. One of my favorite lines was "Among fashion accessories, jewelry reveals more about the taste and sophistication of its wearer than shoes, a scarf or a belt." It goes on to say "Antique and collectible jewelry has devotees for other reasons. An almost limitless variety is available, making it suitable for every taste and pocketbook. Most of it is relatively sturdy and can survive handling and wear. And reasonably priced collectible jewelry from times past often exhibits craftsmanship of a caliber that is typically only available to the extremely well-heeled" This is a delightful read for a rainy Saturday with no Estate Sales on the calendar! I might just buy a couple of these dresses and see how they look in person! Try a new style out today - see what you think. If you hear of a style craze, please drop me a note and tell me what you've heard or seen! ~ HAG :)
