Art Deco is one of my favourite design styles. It is clean simple and materials form and function come together in harmony whether it is a building or a gorgeous kitchen implement. My store will often feature Art Deco items. It originated in Paris in the early 20th century. Most people define the style from around 1910 until the outbreak of World War II. The style was named in the 1960s after the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes which was the culmination of high-end style moderne in Paris. Art Deco permeated all areas of design throughout the 1920s and 30s, including architecture and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as painting, the graphic arts and film. It was modern and gorgeous. Art Deco moved away from the Mucha inspired organic forms of Art Nouveau. In Australia a lot of movie theatres are in the Art Deco style and the 1920's suburban houses are now being renovated and valued as an important part of our architectural history. Watch out for my Art Deco objects ... I hunt them down and just love collecting them.
