French Ivory, Old Kirby manuals, Ford and other automobile print ads. These are things I look for at estate sales. I usually have hands/arms full of what my husband may thing is 'useless' stuff because he chooses stuff like car polish or a wrench. I love collecting items at sales and then coming home and spending hours and hours (too many hours) researching and finding out about these items. Thinking to myself, 'someone needs this' I list it and hopefully you find it! Thanks for looking...keep coming back...it works!
  • Husband Retired UPDATE

    11:14 AM PST, 10/4/2010

It's been a while since I blogged...but I think I need to update the Husband Retired Blog. I am used to him being home all the time, except he's not home all the time! He now is helping neighbors and friends with 'tasks'. He's excellent at that. AND now we go together to estate sales and garage sales and look for interesting stuff to sell. Jim has also become a rather habitual user of 'MY COMPUTER!!!" and now buys all sorts of stuff on eBAY! He buys stickers for our 1947 Woodie. He is having fun learning the computer and even has his own email with his friends. Life is good for him and that makes me happy. We go to lots of car shows and almost always win 'People's Choice' for our beautiful beach cruiser! Income is drastically reduced, but we are not suffering at all. Of course I don't get my nails done anymore (acrylic nails gone) but I kinda like the natural nails now. Well, I guess I better get busy listing some items for sale on eBay...www.somesilversomegold.com or www.somesilverandsomegold.com.
  • Husband Retired

    4:34 PM PST, 3/1/2010

I have heard other women mention the adjustment that needs to be made when your husband takes early retirement. Well, let me tell you....It is not only a financial adjustment but an emotional one as well for both the husband and the wife/ME! So to fill up his time, he has taken to organize EVERYTHING! He is working on the garage, with an occassional visit to the closets and kitchen drawers and cabinets. Retiring from a Retail Grocery career, my shelves look like the aisles of a grocery store...all items faced and dare to be moved. But the garage is where he has found many treasures, tucked away and not used for many years. Most of these were his fathers. I loved my father-in-law. He was a fair and interesting in-law and was a dad to me since mine died when I was 22. Dad was the Chief Maintenance Training Supervisor for TWA Airlines for 35 years. He was such a good mechanic he taught the mechanics that taught others. His tools were numerous and not wanting to part with them, they were tucked away for our son and son-in-law. However, we have disbursed many of them and now are offering them on eBay in hopes that other lovers of tools, ratchets, sockets, calipers, wrenches, brake hones, hand drills, levels etc. will be able to put them to good use. Pictures, detailed descriptions have been written and listed...in hopes that my 'bored' husband will leave my spatulas, wooden spoons and measuring cups alone! Thanks for 'listening' Until next time...

Hi, recently at estate sales, I have run across some pocket knives. Now my husband, Jim, always has a small pocket knife on him, in fact the first time we flew somewhere after 9-11 we forgot and they took it...the one and only knife he had since pre-high school. We tried to see if we could get the pocket knife back from the security lost and found, but of course, they did not have it. (Most likely, some other kid has it now.) But I guess guys just feel like a complete man when they carry a pocket knife of some sort. I will have to admit, that there have been times when I needed to cut a string or something and out somes the handy dandy pocket knife to my rescue. MY HERO! The knives I have found at recent estate sales, the KAMP KING by Imperial and the Camillus TL-29 have seen better days, and are very much larger than the one Jim carries, but I think some man's man will like them...and who knows who's rescue they will come to in the future.

    Until next time,  Cindy

Recently at a Barn Sale in No. County San Diego, I picked up many woodworking tools, planes, fences and one in particular 'tool' that I could not identify at all. I called it an antique rolling pin, but you can see by the pictures it is not a rolling pin.

Inquiries to friends and even buyers who had purchased some of the other vintage woodworking tools led to several 'guesses' but I soon thought to myself, if these experts in antique woodworking tools could not identify it, then who could?

Then, through a series of fun correspondence with a buyer in Italy who was pleased with his item (once it arrived!) I took the liberty to ask him if he knew what this mystery thing was.  Immediately Lazzaro responded with "Wood Corkdriver" complete with pictures!   It has always amazed me how the eBay community, USA and Worldwide assist each other.  Oh I have heard uncomplimentary tales of unhappy transactions, but in my experience, limited as it may be, I am happy to welcome Worldwide buyers.  I find them to be very genuine and willing to wait for their item to arrive.  In fact I would say that probably 1 out of every 5 sales is an international sale.  I recently sold several lots of comic books, and if it hadn't been for Australia, Germany, Great Britain and Brazil...I would have still been stepping over all those comics!

So thank you to eBay buyers and sellers who are willing to reach out and help.  That's what life should be about anyway, right!

    Until next time,  Cindy

Seems like I'm drawn to Pewter these days. I think little pewter animals are so cute. Found two Pewter Ducks and a Roadrunner that are listed or will be soon.

I also have done research on Belleek Irish Pottery China and will be adding that to my auction items. Estate Sales are a good source of China, Pewter and recently I came across some antique tools at a barn sale in No County San Diego. Lots of woodworking planes, saws, tools, moulding planes. These vintage woodworking tools are a work of art by themselves. And if I don't know what it is, I list it with question marks and someone always writes to me and lets me know what it is. Thanks to the eBay community for sharing their wealth of knowledge.

Everyone says "Ya have to BLOG"

Everyone says, "Ya have to 'tweet' or 'face' or 'tube'.

I think "who would want to read what I write and what would/should I write about"?

I tried 'face' and got a lot of snowballs thrown at me at Christmas time, and  besides I was busy selling and shopping online.  I have been selling on eBay for about 2 years now.  I chose the seller name 'pattycyn'.  My mother Patty was the original Garage Sale Reuser/Reseller back in the 70's.  She had a knack of going to sales, picking up items, bringing them home to clean them, paint them and then would have another garage sale and sell them for a profit!  She would purchase costume jewelry, take it apart and redesign it and then sell it for a nice profit.  So I chose patty and cyn  for me, Cynthia, but you can call me Cindy.

In the beginning, I was selling items from Mom's estate and then from my in-law's Estate.  Kept some very special items to pass on, but there were a bunch of sterling silver flatware that didn't match any other sets.  I educated myself about the different marks of Sterling, and branched out into learning to identify some China marks, pottery, glass and collectible items that I might come across at estate sales or garage sales.   Some Silver Some Gold: Collectible Glass, Brass and more.  Treasures to put to good use or just to behold.

I also sell clothing, music, jewelry, household decor items, crystal glasses, all sorts of coffee mugs and just fun things I come across.  Not looking to make a living at this, but I call it my fun money.  (mainly use it to spoil my grown children and the grandchildren).   I even sold the burner elements off my Jenn Air Cooktop!

I don't really collect things for myself, except maybe bubble wrap and boxes!

I got excited about a huge storage tub of comics at a garage sale.  I knew nothing about comics, except I used to read them.  Mostly Archie and Jughead.  I bought them and resold them on eBay.  It took way too much time for the research, but I learned about comics and I made a bit of a profit.

Well, for someone who didn't know what to write about, I have probably bored you so I'll end for now and try to write another time.

    Until next time,   Cindy   www.somesilverandsomegold.com
