MK111 Prismatic Compass
The compass is re-built from the original MK111. To restore we strip down the whole unit and start the build from scratch but up grade the night lights which were originally promethium, we now use tritium. The brass case is cleaned, polished, lacquered and the hinge if necessary is replaced. Gaskets on the compass bowl are replaced, mother of pearl card is carefully cleaned and sapphire jewel checked for serviceability, all night lights replaced. Unit is then calibrated and temperature tested, accuracy is to +/- 40 mins of arc, re-filled with isopropyl and temperature tested to -32 degrees centigrade to plus 52 degrees centigrade. When completed we have a superb working instrument which can also be added to a collection of scientific instruments.
With the compass is supplied a CD which contains the information for understanding and using the prismatic compass plus a large quantity of early 20th century scientific catalogues.
