Mystery series books have become a popular item for people to collect. The interest growth in these books may be in part attributed to childhood memories of favorite mysteries. These type series books have been around for decades. Some of these series books are more familiar than others. Probably the most well known of all are the Hardy Boys series and the Nancy Drew series. Not only are they among the most familiar but they have also been around a long time.
Although I really enjoy the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, I have come to enjoy other similar series mysteries as well such as Dana Girls (by the same publisher,Grosset & Dunlap, as Nancy Drew written by some of the same authors), Judy Bolton (Grosset & Dunlap), and Ken Holt (also by Grosset & Dunlap).
I feel that the Ken Holt series is one of the better written boys series. Ken Holt was written by one person, unlike many of the series books. Samuel Epstein wrote the whole series and his wife Beryl Williams Epstein carefully edited his writings.
Whitman Publishing Company put out a few series mysteries including my favorite, Brains Benton. There were only six of the Brains Benton series.
My all time favorite is a series put out by Random House - Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators series. The Three Investigators series is a favorite of many worldwide. There are many inconsistencies in this series due to the original creator of the series, Robert Arthur, not writing all the books. Even so they are my favorite.
Think back to your childhood and try to recall some of your favorites. Maybe you'll think of some books that I have just recently discovered. One of these is the Kay Tracey mystery series. Now I can make new memories with this great discovery and perhaps you can too!
