Unique Indian Rickshaw
1:45 AM PST, 4/11/2012
A Unique, Authentic and Original Indian Rickshaw made in Calcutta circa 2007 and imported to Adelaide, Australia.
It is the only one of its kind in the World! What makes it so Unique?
Well it has been art worked in dot painting by the Aboriginal Artist, Merrill Bray making this rickshaw stand out like no other of its kind in the world.
I have included in this article the written words by the owner describing his beloved Rickshaw who is sadden that he has to sell his Richshaw, however he hopes to find a new owner who will love it as he did.
Quote: "I grew up under the British Colonial system in Calcutta, India in the 1950s – 1960s.
My early years of schooling in this part of the world were fun, engaging and adventurous. Every morning I would hear the dull bell sound of the rickshaw wallah which was my cue that it was time to go to school and that my transport was ready and waiting. The same rickshaw took me to and from school on a daily basis for two years.
My ties with India still remain to this very day. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing and to this end I had the opportunity to bring one of these old fashioned forms of transport out of the country to Australia.
I had this particular one made specifically for me in Calcutta in the time honoured traditions of the past. Indian Rickshaws like this one are still produced and run on the streets of Calcutta to this very day as they are the only form of transport that can regularly make it from point A to point B during the monsoon period when the notorious roads in the metropolitan area are flooded.
I would very much doubt there is another one like it in Australia. We know this one is unique as it has been art worked in dot painting by the aboriginal artist, Merrill Bray. This piece has been shown in an exhibition at Tandanya in Adelaide in 2010. What was a classical piece of road transport now has become a practical work of art.
It is being regretfully sold simply because there is no room for it at home or work - bell included! Alas no rickshaw wallah to pull it!" End Quote.
This Richshaw’s approximate Measurements are: Height 2020m / Width 1310m / Length 2600m / Weight 100-120kgs
About Australian Aboriginal Art Painting
Aboriginal paintings are the oldest living art tradition in the world (more than 30,000 years) and yet represents one of the most fascinating and popular art investments to date.
The Mandala Sign (which is painted on the Indian Rickshaw) represents the Higher Self which is connected with the Universal Mind which is connected to Source/The Cosmos.
“This Rickshaw is the vehicle into the micro and out into the cosmos and down into the DNA” quoted by the Aboriginal Artist Merrill Bray.
This Authentic/One of Its Kind Indian Rickshaw will suit the collector with the sophistication to appreciate this beautifully detailed hand painted Aboriginal artwork and to understand the power it contains.
