Take a peek at this Hand Painted Whiteware Art Nouveau Dinner Set for 8, Artist Signed, stunning Floral and Berries or grapes pattern, hand painted by M Paddock. As is typical for these sets, the blanks were made by a variety of high-quality manufacturers. I have shown many of their maker's marks in the photos. All have been gently hand washed and dried as they were in storage for a long time, immaculate! Excellent condition, only minor signs of handling, appears to have never been used. No chips or cracks, shiny and bright! About Hand Painted Porcelain: By the turn of the 20th century, painting on porcelain had become a cottage industry for thousands talented artists (mainly women) in America, most of them working from home. Each piece is as unique as the person who painted it. They used various pieces of blank porcelain – whiteware – often produced by many different porcelain manufacturers. They skillfully and painstakingly decorated entire sets or individual pieces. A few of these artists were prolific and well-known, most were unknown. Most signed their completed pieces, which makes each piece personal and very interesting. This industry lasted from the late 1800s up until WWII. Here's what you will receive (note that some pieces have a lustre finish, the artist gave the set a pale cream base color). 8 each: 9 1/4" dinner/luncheon plates, 7 1/2" salad plates, 6 inch bread plates, small dessert bowls 5" across, small dessert bowls 5 1/8" across coupe soup bowls 7 5/8" 10 flat cup and saucer sets - nearly 8 oz, saucers are 5 3/4" across.
