Don't let the sun drain the color from your crystals!

I post this on every auction, because too many people are giving bad advice about placing your crystals in the window and other places in direct sunlight.

The truth is crystals look amazing with sunlight bouncing from them. Unfortunately, those same rays of sunshine can be harming your crystals!

The high level of ultraviolet composition in sunlight will cause some crystals to lose their color.  I had to learn this the hard way.

A while back, my husband bought a gorgeous fluorite egg. The colors were absolutely radiant, with purple, green and blue!  It was so beautiful I wanted to show it off to the world, so what better place to do that than in our kitchen window box, right?

Without a second thought I placed it in the window for all to enjoy. I was devastated when I noticed some time later that the bright purples, greens and blues had all drained from the egg, leaving it almost colorless!

Even though this egg was the unfortunate victim of my ignorance, I will always treasure it and be grateful for the valuable lesson I learned from it.

Not all crystals will fade in direct sunlight, but many do.  I no longer put any of my crystals in the window box.  Please be very careful with your crystals.
