A $200 Rose

The highly anticipated arrival of Pete Rose's inaugural certified autograph and memorabilia cards – in the early November release of 2007 Sportkings – has been met with mixed reaction so far.
Early trading levels seem to indicate a marketplace that's into these Rose cards for the long haul, but not willing to empty the vault at first blush.
Rose's Sportkings autographs are trading in the $225-$275 range and his standard memorabilia cards are bringing between $60 and $120 apiece.
"The autographs are a little softer than where I thought they might be," says Beckett Baseball Price Guide editor Brian Fleischer. "The memorabilia cards are also a little softer than I would have expected. As we get confirmation on the print runs, some of these cards may increase in value."
Fleischer adds that as the limited, high-dollar Sportkings product starts to dry up (and the Rose cards with it), prices stand to benefit as collectors realize that the cards aren't as plentiful as first thought.
"I think six months from now, when we might see just two or three Rose autos and game-used cards per month, sales could be much stronger," Fleischer says.
It's worth noting that based on history-making potential alone, Rose auto and memorabilia cards from Sportkings make headlines of their own in the December issue of Beckett Baseball, on sale everywhere beginning Nov. 14. In that issue, Beckett honors the top 25 certified autographs and game-worn memorabilia cards of the last year.
Without ruining it, let's just say that Rose, baseball's all-time hit king, ranks high on both lists.
