Caring for Bonsai Tools

Dull and rusted tools do not work as efficiantly as clean sharp tools.  Unless you want to be purchasing new tools all the time, you need to know how to care for your tools.

First off, always clean off your tools after use.  Get into the habit and your tools will last many, many years.  Remove dirt, debris, and sap.  The sooner you clean them, the easier the debris is to remove.

Oil your tools occassionally, first wipe them dry with a clean rag, then we use Choji Oil on them to protect the metal from corrosion.  Ideally, they should be oiled after ever use.

Try to keep your tools out of the humidity, although even oxygen will still make them susceptible to rust.

Apply a rush preventative oil, after the rust is removed, apply a coat of Choji oil to the newly exposed steel to stop oxidation.  Be very careful when cleaning rust off of your tools, the sharp edges can be easily damaged and for as much as they cost, you don't want to have to keep replacing them.

Respect your tools and you will have them for many, many years with no problems.
