Primative mid 1800's Walnut Cradle
3:41 PM PST, 5/29/2011
This Walnut piece has a beautiful warm dark patina and appears never to have been shellacked or finished in anyway. I bought this at a yard sale in front of a barn in Montgomery County PA. This cradle appears to be hand cut wood in a very primitive style with no machine work. It is not dovetailed it is held together with square head iron nails. I believe it is Walnut wood with a pine plank bottom. There are various scratches and age cracks, but the piece is solid. It measures 9 inches deep at the foot and 12 inches deep at the headend. It is 15 inches wide and 35 inches long. Each rocker from tip to tip is 26 inches long. The whole cradle shows wears and dings from obvious use. The rockers are nailed on. Please see closeups of dings and chips in rockers and side of cradle. Based on the construction and lines, several reference books place the date of origin to mid 18th century based on the use of the square head iron nails. The pictures make it look more golden in color than it is in person. It is very Walnut colored wood with no stains or shellacs. The Antique Hunter's Guide says "Boxlike cradles on rockers were popular throughout most of the 17th and 18th centuries. While the basic design changed only slightly, construction varied from tongue-and-groove to iron-nail techniques." Simple cradles are not easily dated, but most were made before 1800; thereafter, fashion became a crucial influence and cradles became more like miniature beds." This cradle could be from either the New England region or from non Pennsylvania Dutch area of PA. I am willing to ship it (shipping/packaging/handling is additional and would depend on distance and weight which is approx 25 lbs) If you feel that I am mistaken in any of these details or assumptions PLEASE let me know. It is not my intention to mislead anyone regarding the origins of my items. -

FOX CRAFT Vintage Aluminum Duplicate Bridge Boards 1-12 They are complete with vintage sets of cards in each one. Heres a special bridge players treat!! Someone had cut out and saved Alfred Sheinwolds Daily Bridge Column and has included one with each of the trays. Each tray is set up to play the 4 players hands that correspond to the North South East and West hands in the daily bridge column that was cut out and put with that tray! In addition, this unique vintage set is from Pennsylvania. These all came in their original green heavy boxboard box with reinforced metal edges so that the box will not fall apart with the weight of the aluminum trays. The exterior board box has a purchase sticker from the famous Strawbridge and Clothier Department Store (now defunct), for $12.00. The box has some water marks, scuffing and a smear of white paint, but is in very sound and intact condition. Tray number one has cards in the boards that say Keystone Drawn Steel Company, Spring City PA with the KDS Logo. Board number six has red-bordered cards that say The Mc Carter Iron Works Inc. Norristown Penna. C.B.Anfinsen, Assoc. Asphalt Plant Equipment. Board number 10 has the same cards but with an aqua border. Boards numbered 7, 9, and 11 have card decks with color etchings of flying American waterfowl done by the famous artist Richard E. Bishop. I have provided super sizeable photos of each group of three so you can see the condition of each set. Why aluminum boards instead of plastic? Because aluminum duplicate bridge boards are no longer being made, they are much more durable and valuable. They are better than plastic because they will never crack or break, as plastic boards will do over time. Sheinwold may be best known for his syndicated newspaper column, which ran for more than 30 years. He also prepared the Auto Bridge hands and discussions, and authored Five Weeks to Winning Bridge, which sold more than a million copies phenomenal sales for a book on a card game. He was principal author of The Kaplan-Sheinwold System of Winning Bridge, the first extended description of the Kaplan-Sheinwold bidding system. Sheinwold's smooth, encouraging writing style made him the most popular bridge author of his time. I am proud to say that my friends mother (the late Jane Braik of 29th and Lexington, genius, widow, full time working mom and mother of 5) taught me to play bridge back in the early 70s, which I found fascinating at the time. When I recently found these boards, I bought them because of my memories of enjoying bridge. I hope the buyer will enjoy then and the memories they recall for them. -
VIOLIN 4/4 Czech STRADIVARIUS ANTIQUE COPY and Wilhelm I Bow
9:08 PM PST, 8/21/2010
A wondeful refurbished and restrung Czech made antique copy of a Stradivarius Violin with an even older German Wilhelm I rehaired bow. READY TO PLAY, RESTRUNG, REFURBISHED WITH OLD COFFIN CASE The stamp inside says Copy of Antonio Stradivarius made in Czecho=Slowakia A paper label inside says Repaired by J. Alexander, Gastonia NC 1925 Preface: Bought this Violin Last summer from an estate sale. The experienced people I took it to say it is a very nice instrument made around the turn of the century. Appears to be hand-made with no major repairs and was told the sound is very good: clear, powerful, mellow and rich. Last fall/winter I brought it for professional inspection and had the following done: a new Aubert ( made in France) Bridge put on, new Dominant brand 135BMS Medium synthetic core metal string set put on, all seams reglued (even though there were and are no cracks or splits) new chinrest, and had the bow restrung and there is a new piece of rosin in the case. Antique shoulder rest is still in the case. Restringing and gluing cost me $175.00. Copy of repair ticket included. DIMENSIONS: Violin Length: 23.5 inches/59.75 cm Body Length: 14 inches/35.5 cm Neck: 9.5 inches/24.25cm Top two tuning pegs have mother of pearl inlay and appear to be ebony The neck has not been reset .No major repairs have ever been made. The sound post is set. The chin rest was replaced this winter...The peg box is not damaged in any way.It was tuned during refurbishment and should have no problem staying tuned. Although it will probably need to be retuned as I have not adjusted any tuning since refurbishment. It has a two piece back of beautiful Maple and the neck is the same Maple and NOT varnished ( they told me that a good maker doesnt varnish the neck as varnishing can cause warping of the neck.). The Bow may be worth more than the violin! It is in Very Good Condition and appears possibly older than the violin. It weighs 55 grams with strings, and is 28 inches/71cm long. Round stick, silver mounts, wrapped black leather where your fingers hold the stick itself. Ebony frog with mother of pearl dots on sides and mother of pearl inlay strip on the frog where bow hairs attach. Stamped into one side of the wood near the frog it says Wilhelm I On the end of the wood behind the frog is a stamp in the wood I cannot completely read even with a jewelers glass. I cannot make out the first two letters but the next 4 appear to be auny´or aony It may in fact be Germany. The coffin case is in bad exterior condition as the leather has totally dried up and is chipping off. Sticker in case indicates it is at least from 1925 as it is the same Gastonia NC violin Accessories and repair shop. The main handle is missing. and the center lock does not latch, but the two clip latches at either end close correctly as does the case. -

Original Teddy Bear Anniversary Edition
6:12 PM PST, 1/10/2010
This Vintage 1987 85th Anniversary Edition Teddy Bear is approximately 16 inches tall with a soft golden brown fuzzy coat. He's up for sale this week only on EBAY in my EBAY store www.thepaisleyocean.com Here's the story behind the creation of the first stuffed "Teddy's Bear" toy. "Eighty-five years ago, the President of the United States Teddy Roosevelt, went on a hunting trip. In the forest he found a bear cub, and refused to shoot it. Newspapers across the country printed a cartoon of the President and the Bear Cub. It was seen by millions of people including a man in NewYork who decided to make a toy bear that looked just as soft and cuddly as the one in the newspaper. With the President's permission, he called it Teddy's Bear. That man was Morris Michtom, founder of the Ideal Toy Corporation. From then on the increasingly popular Toy Bears became known as Teddy Bears. Caltoy has been given the honor of introducing a replica of the original Teddy Bear in celebration of the 85th anniversary." Caltoy, Inc. a subsidiary of View-Master Ideal Group, Inc., Nat L. Gorman, President.
