The Monk Collection. It's been quite a while since our love affair with the monk collection started. It's been a while since I've showed a piece from the collection, but now today I bring you another dream linen sheet from France. Most of you avid linen collectors will remember my love affair with the church and the chance encounter with the bishop which lead to this collection. Each piece that I sell I donate a large portion of it to a church in Dijon. This is an Art Deco piece from the late 1920c. As I gaze at this beautiful pure linen drape I can almost hear the Saxophone playing Jazz in the background. I'm staying at a typical 1920s smoky hotel in Gaye Paris and I'm drinking a Singapore Sling. Those were the days my friend. Bold shapes and smooth lines coming together in a new and exciting era of modern art. This stunning piece was made at the height of this period and screams art deco. Hand stitched monogram BT is aggressive and rich, standing proud with delightful French knots and parallel stripes. All encompassed in a diamond design. The pure linen itself is of the highest grade, oodles of charm. A medium weight pure linen sheet, tightly but yet finely woven. Feel wonderful in the fingers and on the skin, drapes like no other fabric, billowy and puffy. The colour is deep straw and it has never been washed, this is not to say it need washing because it's beautifully clean. The linen is finished with a stunning row of jour, all hand stitched including the hems. Just perfect.
