Not many purchases are as exhilarating as buying a brand new pair of Oakley sunglasses for a bargain price. However, that cheap price may be a hint that the glasses are not authentic. As of 2009, genuine Oakley sunglasses ranged from $150 to over $300. A bargain price for these sun blockers might be in the low $100 range but rarely fall below that number. Significantly cheaper prices may indicate a fake. There are other clues that might tell you if those alleged Oakleys are an unreal deal
1. Look at the price if it sounds to good to be true it most likely is you should never pay less than 65% for a pair of Oakley's
2. Look for the words "Made in U.S.A." on the inside of one of the stems. These can be either painted or engraved, depending on the frame style. Real Oakleys are made in America rather than Taiwan or China.
3. Check the Oakley website to see if the color matches available colors in that particular frame. All metal Oakley frames only come in very neutral metal tones.
4. Examine the "O" on the stem of the glasses. Real Oakleys have a raised lettering that is still present even if the paint is worn. Many fakes use a screen printing method so the "O" can be scratched off, and no raised edge is present.
5. All real Oakley sunglasses should come with a microfiber bag, lens care sheet, warranty information, and a cardboard box all of which have Oakley printed on them in some place. If the sunglasses aren't used and do not come with these things you most likely have a fake.
