Bumper sales weekend
3:26 PM PST, 2/21/2010
It's been a record weekend for sales. After shifting an item of clothing on Friday that previously went unsold for weeks; it just got better. I have two large bags of packaged goods ready to take to the post office. I sold seven items in total, which is the most I've shifted so far over a weekend, or over three days. Of course, all of the revenue from the sales have been used to purchase new items, as part of my wardrobe overhaul. But while it's absolutely fantastic to have sold so many things, my inventory is looking pretty low, but I don't think there are any other clothes in my wardrobe I want to get rid of just now... -
The unsold is sold at last
9:34 AM PST, 2/19/2010
An item I had listed three times that should have been a quick sale, was finally sold yesterday, after I reduced the price by £5.00. It was a top brand name garment that I bought and outbid several other people to win - only when it arrived it was far too big for me, so decided to put it straight back on at a fraction above what I paid for it. No problem, I thought. Someone who I outbid will snap it up. How wrong that assumption turned out to be! There were plenty of watchers when it was relisted , around nine, but none of them actually bid, so the item went unsold. I was shocked. I re-listed it and and again it didn't sell. So I listed it a third time on a buy-now basis and then a couple of days before auction end dropped the price and it finally flew off the shelf. Okay, so I made a loss, but it's better than not selling it at all! -
Swings and Roundabouts
12:24 PM PST, 2/16/2010
I've been reflecting on recent my foray into the arena of online buying and selling via EBay and have come to the conclusion that in terms of successes and failures it's very much a case of swings and roundabouts. I'm still frustrated at not yet having sold a top brand item of cothing that I thought would literally fly off the server (not the clothes rail). There always seems to be several people "watching" but no-one pepared to click the "buy now" button, as yet. However, to compensate for that failure I recently listed branded items of clothing that have just been hangly folornly in my wardrobe and gone unworn for more than a year. The plus side is that they are in excellent condition and appear attractive to potential purchasers. The items have all sold quickly in just a few days. I've got some great bargains amongst my own purchases but have also made some unwise decisions, spurred on by the adrennalin rush of the bidding process, paying scant attention to whether I really need the item or if it will even fit. I have lived to regret such reckless behaviour and have learnt from my mistakes. Always ask questions about size and measurements and about the fabric the garment is made from if not mentioned. These days I'm more selective, searching for specific brands and thinking more about how the item of clothing will look on me for my height and shape. This is sometimes hard to visualise when the item is not on a model or mannequin. I try not to buy items on impulse that only have a few minutes left until the end of the auction so that I can have a few days to think about whether I should go ahead and buy. It seems to be working as I've changed my mind a few times this week on items I first thought I simply had to have. -
Don't count your chickens...
2:18 PM PST, 2/9/2010
Yesterday was a bit of a disappointment in the sales stakes. I recently bought a much sought-after designer label knitwear garment, but it was too big for me so I decided to sell it on EBay. I had seen a similar one go for a high price and when I saw there were nine watchers tracking it, I was certain the item would sell on the auction date. But to my horror, there wasn't one single bid. I was really gutted. Even though I sold something else, it couldn't make up for the disappointment I felt not selling this. So I dropped the price and re-listed it, with the auction end date on Sunday. It's taught me a very valuable lesson - never count your chickens before they're hatched! -
Its win! win! win!
5:10 PM PST, 2/7/2010
I had my eye on five items of clothing today. Why is it that everything I see is a "must-have?" There is such good quality clothing and footwear on EBay and so much of it is one-offs, things you won't see on the high street, because an individual (not a business) bought it over a year ago and has never worn it. It's therefore in excellent conditon, almost new and you won't see everyone wearing the same thing. That's the stuff I like. Anyway there were these five must-haves on my shopping list today and I went after them with military precison, and won them all! I must say it is quite exciting bidding for goods on EBay and not knowing until the auction ends whether you've been successful. It gives me a real buzz when the message flashes up that you are the winner. So I was a winner today - but who knows what tomorrow may bring? Some sales I hope - to pay for all this stuff! -
On a high
10:54 AM PST, 2/6/2010
Was on a high this morning after making a winning bid on a lovely wool coat I had my eye on for over a week on EBay. Have been searching for specific items to complete existing outfits and have found a few more items with the auctions ending tomorrow. I'm determined to win all the bids - must plan my strategy...
