Anchor Hocking manufactured hundreds of dinnerware items under the Fire-King Line over the years. Many of their patterns have become very collectable today. Some things are even desired. One of the most collected patterns is the Restaurant Ware. Manufactured in the years of 1948 - 1967.
There were five colors used to make up this line, I'm going to talk about the one named Jade-ite. This color is a beautiful light, creamy green jade. It is heavy, durable oven proof glass made in the U.S.A. Restaurants and Diners weren't the only places serving food on these dishes. Some Churches used them, Schools, and even the United States Military served dinner on them.
I wasn't around when all of this dinnerware was being made 24/7, but I was here when the the market for the dinnerware skyrocketed. It seemed to of happened when Martha Stewart did one of her shows that aired on TV. She had used the Dinnerware on the table setting. She talked how beautiful the dinnerware was and talked some history about it. This was also around the time eBay had launched their Website. Give or take a few years. Either way, Martha Stewart with her outstanding creativity is the person who brought the attention to many of us about Jade-ite. Ebay was the way to market it and get it out there for the people to collect. That it did! The demand for anything Jade-ite was unbelievable. The prices went through the roof! There wasn't a collector's guide book out there that had price value even close to what it was selling for. With some luck you could go out and hit the antique malls to find pieces at a cheap price. Take it home and resale on eBay and make a small fortune.
It didn't take long for the word to spread about Jade-ite. It seemed the most interested people were the ones in Japan. The ones who were buying anyway. They were paying big bucks for the stuff plus shipping cost. Sometimes the shipping alone would cost just as much as the dinnerware. I often wonder why the people in Japan bought up most of the Jade-ite that was sold on eBay. Today they still are buying, but not like they were in the early 1990's into the 2000's. Mugs of any kind made by Fire-King still sell well. Advertisement Mugs are real big today. All Jade-ite, Turquoise Blue, Anchorwhite and the very rare Rose-ite will bring big bucks. Condition must be good. This is a big factor, no chips or cracks, no dishwasher damage. You want nice shiny, stain free pieces. A small investment could bring you some wealth if you search for the best out there.
