Beer Steins and Rarities

It's a very interesting beer stein (tankard) I posted today that is titled "Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Beer Stein E.Allen d.1881". The stein is made by Doulton Lambeth - the most famous British ceramics manufacturer but lidded in Germany and probably sold on German market. The stein was designed by Emily Allen - the most beautiful design, actually. But what's more interesting are the ties between British and German beer stein makers. I have another one I will post tomorrow - it's a plain stoneware piece but it was also created by Doulton Lambeth and lidded in Germany. One might ask - was it cheaper to import bodies from England than to buy locally? There i nothing in this plain piece that would attract attention except for a possible price difference.
