Passionfruit 'Panama Gold' is botanically know as Passiflora edulis cv Panama Gold. Passiflora being the genus, edulis the species (edulis means edible in Latin) cv means cultivar and Panama Gold is the name of the cultivar. Away from the botanical stuff, this Passionfruit has been developed for size, sweetness and palatability. A large fruit with abundant flesh it can be used as a table fruit, as flavour in drinks or as a topping for sweet dishes. Passionfruit can be so expensive in short supply but there is always a period of abundance. During this period, passionfruit flesh should be removed and placed in ice cube trays for freezing and used during periods of short supply. The flesh freezes well and doesn't lose any of its flavour.
