Thanks to the generosity of the Bernina Sewing Machine Co. of Zurich, Switzerland, a book has just been published showing the entire 138-quilt collection of Darwin D. Bearley. The hard cover book contains 160 pages shows 138 Antique Ohio Amish Quilts in full color. The photography and color are unsurpassed in a quilt book and the text is printed in English, French and German. Jonathan Holstein has written the introduction and Darwin D. Bearley has written an essay about the collection. If you like antique quilts, especially Amish Quilts, you will want a copy of this book. It is the only book devoted entirely to the antique quilts of the Ohio Amish and is not available in bookstores. Bearley has spent 30 years of his life putting this collection together and it may well be the only collection of it size made up exclusively of Antique Ohio Amish Quilts. The quilts in the collection date from as early as 1881 and as late as the mid-1940’s. Along with full size examples, the collection includes “Crib” quilts, “Lounge” quilts and “Doll” quilts.
