Memorable wedding on a budget
12:52 PM PST, 8/4/2008
A wedding is three things the anticipation leading up to the big day, the fleeting day itself and the memories that last a life time. The preparation, excitement, and sometimes fear and frustration last a few months, the day itself about 12-15 hours but the memories last forever and by wisely investing in these not the first two can make your wedding a success not a debt nightmare. When making decisions about your wedding always ask your self how long is this going to last and how will it add to your memories. Many brides spend as much as two thirds of their budget on two of the most fleeting things at a wedding food & entertainment, all the while penny pinching on the dress, flowers, flower girl basket, http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=3&campid=5336049643&toolid=10001&customid=1&ext=ring+bearer+pillows&satitle=ring+bearer+pillows, aisle runner, wedding rings, decorations and so on. Nobody will remember if they had chicken or steak a month after the wedding. consider the more contemporary hors d’oeuvres and drinks or an appetizer buffet starting the reception at 8:30 or 9pm. Your guests can enjoy the meal of their choice on their own allowing for picture taking (think memories) without being pushed to join your guests and eat. This makes for a far less expensive reception and an easier and more enjoyable reception experience. If you are not a drink and party till 2am girl consider a week day wedding most reception facilities offer a discount Monday thru Thursday and if your first pick doesn’t consider another location. Outdoor weddings are great and in most parts of the world it is unlikely to rain, so do a little research on the best times and prepare for the unlikely chance of rain and you could save thousands because a caterer is almost always 20-50% less than purchasing food from a reception hall. And many outdoor sites are free or far less expensive than a reception hall or hotel. Remember not to skimp on anything visual a band will play for hours but the pictures last a life time. Put your money into the dresses and tuxes and all the keepsakes you can find like a silver wedding certificate holder or exquisite toasting goblets then find a friend with a great music collection to entertain your guest and save hundreds or thousands over paying a band or cheesy DJ. -
To aisle runner or not?
1:54 PM PST, 4/22/2008
A recent question to floral artist Greg Grenevitch-I was wondering if this aisle runner would look okay in an outdoor ceremony (long wooden deck). Please let me know...I am very interested!
-CatherinePerhaps the real question is do I want an aisle runner used at my wedding? In operating a florist shop for 10 years I have seen them on grass, sidewalk, wood floor, etc. An aisle runner creates a sense of importance and gives greater value, as do all traditions to the event of being married. Research shows the more time & money you invest in a marriage the longer it will last. This is not to say lavish Hollywood weddings last longer this investment must come from both of the marrying individuals and the investment must be of that which is most important to each of them. A good example is the couple with a long abstinent courtship, not that I believe having sex before marriage causes divorce, but an abstinent courtship is an investment that binds these individuals together. A big wedding paid for by your parents can be the complete opposite giving the couple no real sense of personal investment and no reason to be faithful. Buy an aisle runner to enhance the wedding experiance and the joy of being married, knowing that it sets the bride apart making her the focus of the hallowed celebration. -

How long of an aisle runner should I purchase?
When deciding on an aisle runner length do not just ask the pastor priest or Rabbi measure from the aisle runner start point usually at the base of the first step to the alter, although you may start at the top of the stairs this is a good question for the person performing the ceremony. Now from this point measure at least 6' feet beyond the point you intend to enter the aisle runner remembering it will not go around corners. then add 6 to 12 more feet this is material that will stay on the tube and weight it down so your dress does not pull the runner down the aisle especially if you have a long train it is also best to have a friend or family member there to fluff and straighten the back of your dress for perfect pictures.
