Back in the 70's cartoon glasses were booming. Soda sponsors like Coca-Cola and Pepsi worked hard to get sponsorship on cartoons and get the glasses into fast food restaurants like Hardees, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Burger King and more. It started in 1973 with one of the most popular promotions done by Pepsi and sought after by collectors all over today. They promoted the single character Warner Bros cartoons where you could go into a place like Carrols in upstate New York, order a meal and get Tweety or one of the many others on a glass filled with a Pepsi product. The promotion was a huge success, companies had to look for other characters to add to glasses to keep the promotions fresh. Disney characters and Superhero's on Pepsi glasses were soon to follow suit. In the midst of all this, some test glasses were made to see how the popularity of other characters would do. Many of these never got produced and were only made for test purposes. Once they started surfacing in the 90's when glass books became popular, the prices of these prototype glasses has skyrocketed and never looked back. You have series like The Archies, Cosby Kids, Terrytoons, Disney, Battle of The Planets, Hanna Barbera, Endangered Species and a slew of others that only a half dozen were made. These are very desirable and the price peaked around 2000, dropped a slight bit and has come roaring back due to the extreme scarcity of these glasses. Every once in a while one will pop up in an antique mall or flea market and sometimes on ebay or craigs list. They are few and far between with many never being seen before so if you do get the opportunity to purchase one or a set, you should take advantage of it as it may be a long time before you ever see it again if at all.
