  • I Love Star Wars

Last time I wrote I mentioned we were cleaning out Grandma's attic. I found some of my childhood items up there. One of which was my Star Wars Darth Vader costume I wore as a kid. I can't believe Grandma saved that thing after all these years.
This costume brings back so many memories for me not only of my beginning love for all things Star Wars, but also of the simplicity of life as a child in the 70s and 80s. I remembered going to the theater with my Dad being so excited to see "the robot movie" which is how I thought of it to begin with. The smells of fresh popcorn popping in the theater lobby and the sounds of all the excited voices came rushing back. Practically, running to find seats and then the theater going dark and that unforgetable music which will always equal Star Wars in our hearts and minds.
It also reminds of all the fun years of trick or treating in our inexpensive Halloween costumes, sitting at the table after returning home, Grandpap "inspecting" our candy, always removing a few "questionable" pieces for himself. My Grandfather has been gone for years and Halloween costumes have gone from being simple vinyl items to elaborate flashy things, but an item like this stays with you, in your memories, in your heart, and apparently in my Grandmother's attic.  The nostalgia of this costume is unquestionable.
  • Granny Might Have Been Crazy to Not Use This Toaster

On a recent trip to Larry's grandmother's house she asked us to raid her attic and clear out a bunch of items. Always happy to help Granny out, we did. You wouldn't believe some of the great things we found up there...old clothes from the 1920s, old books, tons of old toys...how many of you remember that old cotton candy machine that was a kids toy and the size of the kitchen table. One of the things we found was this toaster. She bought it, or rather Grandpap bought it for her and it was shiny chrome. He took it out of the box and set it up on the counter, tossed the box in the trash and waited to see how long it took her to notice. It wasn't long before that shiny metal object caught her attention and as much as she loved Grandpap for buying it, Granny just wasn't a chrome kind of gal, so she sent him back to the local store to get her an almond color one. He did and the chrome one got placed into the almond box and tucked into the attic, completely forgotten about until we found it.
We've just started going through all the boxes we pulled out of the attic, but hope to find some more great treasures with fun stories to go with them.
