EDT vs EDP What does this mean in the Perfume buying world? Fragrance EDT EDT < ? > EDP We have received questions in the difference between EDT (or Eau de Toilette) and EDP (or Eau de Parfum) and which one is better. It is very important to know the differences because they can to put it bluntly, smell not exactly the same. You wouldn't want to spend money on something that doesn't smell like the perfume or fragrance you smelled at the fragrance counter of the mall. Well we did our research for you so read the following and you will be able to better decide on your next purchase. It is simply a matter of the amount or concentration of oils in the fragrance. These oils or "juice" as they are called provide the intensity factor. The highest concentration of "juice" is in perfume (or parfum). Next would be Eau de Parfum, then Eau de Toilette, and finally Eau de Cologne. Actually, Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne are generally interchangeable, particularly in Men's fragrances. The higher the concentration of "juice" the longer your fragrance will last, and the less you need to apply. PERFUME (PARFUM) This consists of a 15-30% concentration of perfume essence and is the strongest fragrance available. This means that not only do you need to use less, but also that the fragrance lasts longer, typically for up to 6 hours, depending on skin type. EAU DE TOILETTE (EDT) This is a lighter more delicate fragrance, with a 4-8% concentration of the essence, and is therefore most suited to everyday use. It is normally less expensive than Eau de Parfum, and lasts for 2 to 4 hours. EAU DE PARFUM (EDP) This is lighter than Perfume, with an 8-15% concentration, and so is less expensive but still has long lasting characteristics, from 3 to 5 hours. Where else can we do this? extracted from cosmeticsdesign.com: Natura promotes fragrance with scented web banner By Katie Nichol, 01-Jun-2010 Brazilian cosmetics company Natura used a scented, online banner created by digital marketing agency, ID\TBWA, to promote the reformulation of its Kaiak cologne. Kaiak, which is claimed to be the number one selling fragrance brand in the country, is sold only by direct selling; the dominant retail channel in Brazil. In order to communicate the fact that the fragrance had changed, a &#145;scented banner&#146; concept was designed that would allow internet users to smell the redesigned fragrance. Kaiak scented banner The parties involved chose internet cafes (known as LAN houses in Brazil) as the platform on which to launch the strategy, with an agreement with more than 15 locations put in place. According to ID\TBWA, LAN houses were chosen in order to reflect the accessible price point of the brand, as they are popular in less affluent areas where people do not have internet access in their homes. In addition, they were identified as a good way to reach the brand&#146;s target audience &#150; over 77 percent of people accessing the internet in this way are men, said the company. A plug-in that made the banner advert appear on the home page of the LAN computers was created, as well as a device to eject a scented paper strip. Internet users were invited to click on the banner, which read: &#147;The best selling men&#146;s fragrance in the country just changed. Want to try it. Click this banner, its scented.&#148; Upon clicking on the banner, the device next to the computer ejected a scented paper strip, enabling the user to sample the new fragrance. Successful campaign The campaign was reportedly very successful, with the scented banner achieving a click through rate of 17.2 per cent, which ID\TBWA says is 43 times higher than the global average. Each device was capable of storing 50 scented paper strips, and it was claimed that 10,000 were distributed in one weekend.
