First of all Congratulations! You are the owner of an exquisite, luxurious fashion accessory, which you will be able to enjoy for years to come if it is properly cared for and stored. Scarves can absorb moisture and scents ~ to guard your silk scarf be sure to apply hairspray and perfumes BEFORE you put your scarf on. There is nothing wrong with some of your signature scent on a scarf, but these products can be harsh on the fibers over time. One of the most unique aspects of silk is it's strength and its vulnerability! You want to treat your silk scarf with care, but it's natural fibers make it a very resilient fabric. Many care labels will tell you to Dry Clean your silk scarf and that may be a safe method. However I have had wonderful results from hand washing. Depending on the scarf ~ color run is your biggest concern. I use a great product... SOAKWASH (TM) , however anything mild, alkaline free will work... even a baby shampoo with very little scent. Use, cool or warm water, keeping in mind to always avoid the extremes and unnecessary heat. Be careful when trying to remove a stain, although the fabric is strong, it is often the color that you have to be careful with. It may go without saying but avoid excessive rubbing, as this will tear the tiny fibers. I always find it best to wet the whole scarf and give a mild wash even if there is only one soiled area, just to keep the texture the same and avoid water stains. DO NOT WRING OR TWIST your scarf. I like to squeeze using a fresh white towel. Hang your scarf loosely or lay flat to dry... do not let it double over itself, or color run may happen. DO NOT DRY scarf outside in the sun. IRONING ~ I like to iron on the reverse side of the scarf. I spritz the the scarf with distilled water before applying a medium heat iron. Pure silk can handle the occasional hot iron ~ a synthetic will easily melt. I do not like to iron folds into scarves but this is a personal preference, over time they will stay and weaken scarf. STORING ~ I like to hang my scarves where I can see them and will be more apt to use them. A drawer works great, but it is easy to forget them, and often times a fresh ironing is needed!
