Those of you who follow my auctions will be aware that I have an ongoing passion (obsession) with Victorian and Art Deco Mourning jewellery. I'm going to not bore you with lots of chatter but will share a couple of very good online videos with you. Both are short and explore the culture and materials of mourning your loved ones. Featured are Whitby Jet, Vulcanite, French Jet and hair jewellery. There is also a segment on the ritual of dressing for mourning. Enjoy.. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=USpaP7ru5Wg&vq=medium#t=107 Sorry I can't remember how to make these links active so until I do you'll have to do the old school copy/paste thing. http://www.abc.net.au/tv/collectors/segments/s3014922.htm

Well I am a new convert to Rosti Melamine! A friend gave me a pointer towards it and now I have cleaned out the local Op Shops and sold some I am starting my own collection.

I am particularly pleased with the long spoon with the hole in it.... such a fabulous stirrer! Just love the array of colours it comes in too.

During a recent conversation about Linen it was discussed that Vintage Linen is becoming harder to find.

What is Vintage: To quote from one of my FAVOURITE Vintage Sellers Jillywinkle

Ah the definition of vintage. Things sturdily made, pre-barcode, usually not by giant corporations & usually not from China ~ apart from Hong Kong/Korea/Taiwan vintage (e.g. purses, handbags, cutlery & some kitchenware).
Prior to the terms vintage and retro, second hand sellers/dealers were a bit hard pressed for an overall terminology for something from earlyish 20th Century but not yet 100 years old ~ therefore not an antique. Vintage and Retro really covers early 20th Century stuff.

Anyway, back to the Vintage Linen Fetish I am an addict and you will often find me listing Linen; mainly table linen but also sheets, T Towels and Fabric remnants.

I mainly find my linens in Op Shops, but also markets, online and garage sales. I refuse to chop it up into fat quarters, my buyers can do that themselves if they so wish. I see the value in the whole piece and the provenance of old linen, particularly the hand crafted just intriguing. I think it is that which feeds my Vintage Fetish!!
