How to Create a Checkout Profile

Back to Help

Checkout is an important part of every purchase made on eBay and Auctiva makes it easy to set your checkout preferences with the Checkout Profile. This tutorial will show you how to create a Checkout Profile.

Introduction

A Checkout Profile stores information about your checkout preferences, including your payment methods, taxes and return policies. Auctiva stores this information for your future reference so you can quickly load it into new listings.

Instructions

Auctiva allows you to create several Checkout Profiles for your listings.

Step 1. Add Checkout Profile.

  • Hover your mouse over the Profiles tab and click on the "Checkout" link (Figure 1). The Checkout Profile page will load.

Step 2. Choose the appropriate eBay site.

  • eBay Site: Choose the eBay Site to which this Checkout Profile will be assigned from the drop-down menu (Figure 2).

Step 3. Select payment methods.

  • Accept PayPal Payments: Select this checkbox if you want to accept PayPal payments. This payment method allows you to accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa and debit cards. Signing up with PayPal is free, but you will be charged fees for receiving payments.
  • Require Immediate Payment: Select this checkbox if you want to require your customers to pay immediately.
  • Other Methods: Select this checkbox to include personal checks and/or payment on pickup (Figure 3). It is important to note that eBay only allows these payments in some instances. Under new regulations, you are no longer allowed to list paper payment options as a method of payment. However, if buyers contact you and ask if they can pay with a paper payment, you can accept.

  • Merchant Credit Cards: Select this checkbox if you have a merchant account either through a bank or a payment gateway that you would like to use for a payment method. When this box is selected, you can accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

Step 4. Edit taxes.

You can decide to charge your buyers sales tax, if desired. We recommend checking with a tax professional to understand your tax liability. If you decide to charge a sales tax, you can manually enter the tax or use your eBay tax table to check out the tax rates for every state in the country.

  • Enter the desired tax percentage in the "Charge" box (Figure 4-A).
  • Select the state you live in from the drop-down menu (Figure 4-B).
  • Use eBay sales tax table: Select this checkbox (Figure 4-C) if you would rather use eBay's sales tax table.

Step 5. Select return policy.

eBay now requires that all sellers specify a return policy. This does not mean you have to accept returns; you merely have to state whether you do or do not accept returns.

  • Return Policy: Select which return policy you'd like to specify in this profile.

Note: If you will be accepting returns, be sure to let your customers know how you will handle them (i.e., who will pay for the shipping costs of returned items, etc.). You should enter this information in the description of your listing so your buyers will see it.

Step 6. Enter additional checkout information.

  • Enter any additional checkout information you want to include in the profile. This might be a good place to let customers know when you will expect payment and if they should contact you after a listing ends.

Step 7. Save Checkout Profile.

  • Profile Name box: Enter the desired name for your new profile.
  • Click the Save button. When this has been successfully saved, Auctiva will display a confirmation message and you will be re-directed to the Auctiva Profiles page.

This completes the task of creating a Checkout Profile.
