How to edit the Scrolling Gallery

Back to Tutorials

Auctiva's Scrolling Gallery allows you to promote other products in your store while buyers browse through one of your listings. This is a great cross-selling tool. You can customize each of the six different gallery styles Auctiva offers by customizing the colors and text. This tutorial will show you how to edit your Scrolling Gallery.

What is a Scrolling Gallery?

The Scrolling Gallery is a cross-selling tool that displays a variety of your items. Buyers can use the Scrolling Gallery to see what additional listings you have to offer. A maximum of 16 items can scroll through the gallery in variety of ways depending on the settings you choose. Your Scrolling Gallery is refreshed about every two hours with listings that will be ending the soonest, unless you've chosen to hide or feature certain store items. Hidden items will never appear in the Scrolling Gallery and Featured Items will always be given priority in the Scrolling Gallery. To learn how to hide or feature items, read the Edit Store Items tutorial. As listings end, new items are placed in the Scrolling Gallery. Scrolling galleries can appear above, below, to the right, or to the left of the item description.

How to edit your Scrolling Gallery

Watch the complete Scrolling Gallery video tutorial or follow these instructions to learn how to customize your Scrolling Gallery.

Step 1. Load the Scrolling Gallery Editor.

Note: You can change the Scrolling Gallery type, colors, text and placement using the Scrolling Gallery editor. All changes will be effective when new listings are created with the exception of text changes. Text changes will be effective immediately, although it may take eBay's site several hours before it updates the Scrolling Gallery.

  • Hover your mouse over the Store tab and click on the Customize link in the Scrolling Gallery section (Figure 1.1). The Scrolling Gallery Editor will load.

  • A preview of the Scrolling Gallery will load. Choose what items you want displayed in the preview (Figure 1.2). This is for preview purposes only.

Step 2. Pick a Scrolling Gallery style.

  • Choose your preferred Scrolling Gallery style by clicking on the thumbnail image. A preview of the chosen gallery style will be displayed at the top of the page.

Note: If you select the Vertical option (Figure 2-A.), all listings that are imported from eBay (when you created your Auctiva account) will attached the Vertical Scrolling Gallery to the bottom of the listing. New listings that you create in Auctiva will have the Vertical Scrolling Gallery appear to the right or left in your listings.

  • Once you've made your Scrolling Gallery style selection, click on the "Choose Colors" tab (Figure 2-B) to edit the colors. Or, click on the Save button if you're finished editing.

Step 3. Edit Colors.

You can choose to edit the Scrolling Gallery colors by choosing individual custom colors or by choosing a theme.

Note: It's highly recommended that you leave the Template Matching option selected (Figure 3.1). This will ensure that your Scrolling Gallery will match your listing templates.

  • Pick your own palette: Expand this section to edit the colors of the Scrolling Gallery. Click on the color thumbnail to the left of each color option to make a color selection. The color selection widget will load. Find the color you'd like to use, or enter in a color hexadecimal value in the "#" field (Figure 3.2-A) and click on the Set button. This will update the color for that section of the Scrolling Gallery. It may take several seconds for the color to be updated in the preview. Here are the sections of the Scrolling Gallery you can edit:
    • Gallery Border & Item Titles: This section represents the border around the Scrolling Gallery and the Item Titles (Figure 3.3-A).
    • Gallery Background: This section represents the background of the Scrolling Gallery (Figure 3.3-B).
    • Gallery Title: This is the color of the text found at the top and bottom of the Scrolling Gallery (Figure 3.3-C).
    • Thumbnail Backgrounds: This section is the background or "frame" that surrounds the different items (Figure 3.3-D).
    • Navigation Buttons: These buttons are the Play and Pause buttons (Figure 3.3-E).

Depending on the Scrolling Gallery style you choose, some sections may not be editable because they don't exist with that Scrolling Gallery style.

  • When you're done with editing the colors, click on the "Text & Placement" tab (Figure 3.4-A) to move to the next section. Or, you can click on the Save button if you are finished editing the Scrolling Gallery.
