The e-commerce shopping cart comparison engine cites research by the Australian Payment Clearing Association, which reveals that only 57 percent of all Australian e-commerce spending was with domestic companies during December 2008.
Meanwhile, Forrester Research estimates Australian shoppers spent a total of $23 billion online in 2008—creating a potential $9.9 billion opportunity for e-commerce companies located elsewhere.
ZippyCart surmises that the unstable economy has contributed to shoppers looking for the best deals online, while also making it tough for smaller local retailers to move to an online selling model.
