When listing auto parts on eBay it is critical that you include all available fitment data. Otherwise many of your potential customers will never see your product - even if it is exactly what they are looking for and at a price they are willing to pay. Fitment data that has been properly added to your listing will help your customers quickly determine if the part is compatible with their vehicle make, model, and year. Many shoppers that are looking for a specific part will start looking by filtering their search by the vehicle that needs the part. If you haven’t included fitment information then those shoppers will never see what you have to offer. Some of the remaining shoppers might find and buy from you, only to return the part later when they find out it doesn’t fit their specific vehicle and needs.

We’ve put together a few quick tips on the easiest and best ways to include fitment data in your eBay listings.

  • There is no need to recreate what eBay has already built. If you have the UPC or the brand and part number for what you are selling, then search eBay’s extensive catalog to find your product and automatically apply the fitment data. This not only will save you a great deal of time, but can also eliminate typos and other data entry errors.
  • Put the part number in front of your customers and within eBay’s search results wherever it is appropriate. Include it in your product description and item specifics. Don’t just list the number randomly in the description, rather make sure it is clear to anyone looking at your listing that it is the part number for the product you are selling. You want your customer to be confident in the purchase they are about to make.
  • Sometimes you’ll have a product that isn’t in eBay’s catalog. There will be more work to include all of the relevant information, but it is worth the effort to take the time to get it right. Use every item specific field that eBay allows for the category in which you are selling, and give your customers as much information as possible to help them find what they are searching for. Even if the part will generally work with most vehicles, this extra data ensures that your product is included in all relevant searches and is findable. An item that cannot be found will not be purchased!

Adding fitment data to your listings does not need to be time consuming. It will give you a competitive edge over your competitors that aren’t including this information in their listings. Utilize eBay’s catalog to save time, include the part number wherever appropriate to help your prospective customers, and use all of the item specific fields that eBay provides. When done properly this will increase your sales, decrease your returns, and increase your customer satisfaction and positive feedback score. If you are listing auto parts then set yourself up for success and put detailed fitment data in front of your customers.
