eBay has acquired the technology and team it partnered with last year when it introduced eBay Group Gifts, officials announced on Thursday.

eBay acquired The Gifts Projects, a social platform that allows shoppers to chip in to buy gifts for family and friends online. eBay partnered with The Gifts Project last November to form eBay Group Gifts, an eBay program that allows eBay shoppers to invite others to chip in for gifts for others.

The acquisition will take the partnership "to the next level," The Gifts Project notes in a blog post. eBay plans to turn The Gifts Project into its Israel Social Center and "focus on building social shopping platforms and product features for eBay Marketplaces," the blog states.

The Gifts Project team says it's very happy about the acquisition.

"Not only will eBay's immense network of buyers and sellers allow us to offer the benefits of social commerce to millions of people worldwide, but it will also help us achieve our mission of getting people the gifts they really deserve," The Gifts Project says, adding that it expects all e-commerce to eventually become social commerce.

"We will strive to reach our full potential of combined efforts to produce outstanding social experiences for larger audiences and create things that will blow your mind," it says.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
